Hi,
I know the customer reg templates can be customized. Is there a simple way to add a field and make it required for all? I want to have users enter a Tax ID as items are sold wholesale to business only.

There is no way to add additional fields to the customer Registration screens and have them be passed along with the order. You could use one of the Address fields like the Title or Suffix and rename it to be TaxID and make that a required field. Note that the address fields will display on all shopping cart and order screens and emails so be aware of that. You would cofigure it on Commerce Set up > Checkout and the text for it on Preferences >Store Text > Checkout.

With the releases since your last post, has anything changed with regard to adding custom fields in customer registration? We would like to synch our mobile registrations with our standard ones, but need a field for Mobile Phone.

No, no new fields have been added to customer registration. If you are not using all of the name fields such as Title or Suffix you could perhaps use that field and rename it to be "Mobile phone" You change the name of the field on Preferences > Store Text > Checkout.
