Options should have weight

Postby GiftSpecialists » Mon Aug 28, 2006 8:39 am

The Ordering Options currently allow us to add a price increse to the option, but there is no way to add a weight.

ShopSite's example of using this feature (a bottle of pills) works fine becuase the weight doesn't change drastically from a bottle of 100 pills to a bottle of 500. However, most products can not be used this way becuase there is no way currently to calculate the correct shipping charges.

This is a great point GiftSpecialist. This shopping cart is heaps better than the cart I have come from, however even that had the ability to change the weight with the product options.

This suggestion should be implemented! :P

As should inventory control for ordering options. Both of these missing features are a headache (the weight issue causes shipping charges to be off; the other one means effectively you can't track inventory for products that have ordering options).

Weight also as Variable Field for Order Anywhere

Postby ridgeeq » Wed May 09, 2007 6:43 am

I use the Order Anywhere feature with variable pricing, product name, and SKU. It would be very helpful to be able to submit a Variable weight as well with the same product.

For instance, we have over 20,000 electronic manuals for sale. Rather than enter them as individual products, I am using the variable price and name to push them all into the shopping cart under one product ID. However they don't all weigh the same, so the shipping charges are off many times.

I've seen a workaround from a few stores where the merchant will create a number of variable price/name/sku products, each with a different weight, and then use the appropriate one for the various products via order anywhere links. So you could setup 20 products from 1 to 20 pounds for example, and then use the one that most closely matches the weight of the actual product for an add to cart link.

Add to that variable SKUs for ordering options.

These 3 missing items (variable weight, inventory and SKUs) are the reasons why we're starting to look for a different cart. The weight is an inconvenience, but the inability to track inventory for items with ordering options is becoming a show stopper.

Good work around. But still very clunky and ShopSite should consider an easier wasy to do this feature.

Multiple Sites using one Shopsite

Postby FlaGatorMan » Sat Dec 29, 2007 11:32 am

I see you are running multiple sites.... Are you using one Shopsite program to run all your stores?

We have 3 sites that are up and running now, but under different hosting sites (non shopsite) and one site that is hosted with Shopsite. We sure would like to bring all of them under one roof and run them together. This would sure make things alot easier for us.

Please let me know if this can be done.
Thanks,
Gator !
