Installation Issues Have you seen this issue

Postby carlnunes » Tue May 22, 2007 12:42 pm

I finally get the files uploaded to my server correctly (ASCII, BINARY).
On the first screen, click Create a new ShopSite installation. (No Problem)
On the next screen, enter values for the store:
After I enter my values and click okay, I just get an error!
500 server error
I encountered an unrecoverable server error. Please go back and try again.

This is the kind of error I get when permissions are off or ASCII/BINARY is messed up.
I have installed this store before but deleted everything to reorganize the folders during install and move to a differant host.
Any comments would be appreciated!

Are you using the latest version of ShopSite? If not, what version is it? And what server OS are you installing on?

In the install menu one of the options is the path to tar, another is the path to sendmail. Have yo verified that these are correct on your server?

Thanks for the speedy response.
Not sure about the path to TAR.
I do know that when I try the install again I can't do anything; keep getting the same error. So I'll reinstall and try again.
YES - using latest ShopSite Version
UNIX is my host OS

'UNIX' is probably not specific enough as far as the OS goes. ShopSite can install on different types of UNIX-like OS's including Solaris (for SPARC servers), FreeBSD, and Linux. Each one requires its own install files specific to that platform.

There is sometimes a level of binary compatibility across some Linux and FreeBSD servers, but I would not recommend trying to rely on it, rather you should get the install package specific to your the operating system.

Excellent. Make sure, then, that you are using the FreeBSD install files, too, and not the Linux install files.

Also try re-uploading the auth file to the server in ASCII mode, and/or use a text editor on the server to create the store.auth and paste the data from the store.auth on your Windows desktop into the server-side text editor.

Man I reload alot
upload everything in binary then the auth in ascii.
every once in a while (days apart) I get the install to begin.
* I also did the create store.auth in the server control panel.
I can't recommend this software to any of my clients.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!

I would suggest using a different FTP client, sounds like perhaps the one you are using isn't uploading things right if you have to do that much work.

RFM!

Postby carlnunes » Wed May 23, 2007 9:14 am

RFM! I finally read the readme.txt and it states:
If your server is running FreeBSD v5.x or v6.x, you will need to install the
v4.x compatibility libraries before you can install and run this
version of ShopSite.

I will give this a try and report back.

Any one wanna outline a step by step to this install/upgrade?

Ah, FreeBSD v5 or v6.

Note that often just installing the 4xcompat package won't automatically make everything work, because often this package installs incorrectly (not all of the symbolic links it creates point to the correct libraries it installs). But I have usually seen errors related to that from the orderhandler.cgi in the backoffice and the thankyou.cgi in the shopping cart, not usually from the wwwinstall.cgi.

By step-by-step instructions, do you mean for the FreeBSD compatibility lib package on your server, or do you mean ShopSite instructions? If you mean instructions for the ShopSite install or upgrade, look here for installing:

http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/install/ShopSite_SC_install.html

and here for upgrading:

Step by Step:
Install 4.x whether is works or not?
then proceed to install 8.x?

FreeBSD Version is: FreeBSD: 4.10 - SATA-RELEASE

Carl,

The v4.x, v5.x, and v6.x that the readme is referring to is the version of FreeBSD, not the version of ShopSite. If your FreeBSD version is v4.10, then you should be able to install any version of ShopSite on it without having to install additional server library packages.

Okay. So I am unable to determine why this is not working. I thought I was onto something but the version reported by my host doesn't apply to this issue.
Back to square one.
Can't install.

Problem Solved

Postby carlnunes » Sat May 26, 2007 4:50 pm

So I paid the guys at ShopSite to troubleshoot this for me and it was well worth it. Everything I tried was recommended by my HOST. The shopsite guy saw right through that and got me up a running!
Thanks John and John!

The problem the guy was having installing on this server is that the webserver is not configured to execute cgi's from the cgi-bin directory under the '(subdirectory name)' directory, only from the main cgi-bin in the public_html directory.

I seem to be having a similar problem, I'm getting this error:
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: wwwinstall.cgi: Shared object has no run-time symbol table

Is this a linking issue related to the 4.x libraries?
Any idea what I can do to fix it?

I am running freebsd 6, libraries are installed and should work.

Thanks!
