How to add required checkbox [ ] on confirm order page

Hello all,

I need to add a checkbox to my confirm order page, something like:

[ ] Yes, I have read and agree to your terms and conditions and want to place my order.

Only if the customer checks the box, he is able to place his order. As long as the checkbox is not checked, an error message should be displayed. Like: "Please read and agree to the terms and conditions by checking the box".

I am required by law to make the customer aware of certain online shopping regulations and need proof that I have done this properly. E.g. like having him check the box.

What is the best way to do this? Is there a script that I can use?

This can be done with the Custom Checkout Fields configured in Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Checkout, in fact one of the examples in the documentation for this feature is exactly what you are looking to do, see:
