Removal of CC information

Is it possible to remove the credit card information for just one product, so for instance is a business is giving away a free item as a promotion, can the individual add that product to the cart and not be bothered by typing in their credit card info?

If so, how is this accomplished?

The latest version (8.3) and a few versions back do not display the credit card entry fields if the the cart value is 0.00. I'm not sure exactly which version that change was made but at least in the latest version you can do this.

Since the version of shopsite that I am using is older than this, I need to configure it so that when someone orders this free promotional product, they are not required to fill out the credit card info. It's OK if the cc info is there, but is it possible to make it so it does not have to be filled out to checkout?

Any help would be appreciated!

No, you can't make the cc payment fields not required if they are there.

You could make a new payment type that doesn't require any payment fields and have shoppers making this 0.00 purchase to select this payment method if you want. You can make your own payment type using the Generic Payment Options configured in Preferences -> Store Text -> Checkout, and you can turn on your configured Generic Payment Option in Commerce Setup -> Payment.

Thanks so much. OK so I've got the generic payment all set up and named it 'promotion', but how do I get this option to display when someone is in the cart area?

I can't find on the specific product page where I can change the means of payment.

Thanks, but I guess what I don't understand is that I have the box checked by 'generic payment' which is specifically called 'promotion' so is that what you mean by "turn on your configured Generic Payment Option in Commerce Setup"?
