Store Name changes to certain page names unexpectedly ???

Postby beley » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:21 am

We're seeing a bug in ShopSite and it seems to happen in several 8.x versions.

For some reason, the Store Name, found in Preferences > Store Text > Store Pages, changes to a page name for some reason.

We go in and edit the store name and a few days later notice that it's changed, go into the preferences and it actually has changed to a page name (in this case the name of the home page).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?

I am still having this issue and have posted here and emailed support with no answer. It has happened in ALL v8 stores of mine. When I change page titles and names, the Store Name field changes automatically.

It's getting really annoying, because I just caught it by looking up a client's site in GOOGLE and the store name field in the title of EVERY page were changed to the name of one page.

This is really frustrating, has no one else experienced this bug?

The store name is set to the name of the index.html page when you go through the setup wizard the first time. You can later change the name by going to the Preferences > Store Text > Store pages screen. However if you make changes of your index.html page it will reset that value.

So if you are changing your index.html page you will currently need to go and reset the value that you had for Store Name. This issue has been noted and logged for engineers to look at.

Jim,

I am not touching the wizard. I have the [-- STORE.Name --] field in a page template (in the Title tag).

When I change certain page names, the store name field changes. I am not going into the preferences, nor is anyone using the wizard.

When I go check, the Store Name field in Preferences > Store Text > Store Pages has changed to the name of a page that has been edited.

We edit the pages through the advanced edit in ShopSite, not through any kind of import.

I have been using ShopSite for 8 years, and have never had this problem until version 8.

Something is changing the Store Name field in the database or config file when an edit is performed under certain circumstances.

The last few times it happened, it was not with the index page.

(Note that you don't have to go through the wizard to have the change made to the value. I only mentioned the Wizard since that is the place where the value is initially set. The change will be made when editing of the store's main page in the backoffice in either Advanced or Basic mode. This is new behavior in 8.x stores)

The only instance where we have seen it change is when a change is made to the page that ShopSite considers the main store page. This is generally index.html but could also be ss_index.html if you had an index.html when you initially setup the store and you indicated that ShopSite should not overwrite your index.html file. If you can cause the problem to occur under any other circumstance please let us know the steps to recreate the issue.

Should I just hard code their name in the template or is this something that is going to be fixed in a future release?

We will look at fixing it for a future release. For the time being it may be better to just hard code it into the template so your page titles don't keep changing.
