What Screen Resolution to Design For?

We (www.audiobooksonline.com) will be having our Web store re-designed soon. In 2006 about 14% of our visitors had screen resolution of 800 X 600. YTD 2007 about 10% of visitors are using 800 X 600.

Our new ecommerce store will most likely be fixed width. I am thinking of asking the designer to design for 1024 X 768.

I would appreciate feedback on designing for 1024 X 768.

800px wide is still the absolute safest, but 1024 is the new standard. I personaly design to 1000px wide to allow space for a vertical scrollbar - its a nice round number too.
