Subproduct Names

Hello: On the issue of subproducts when it comes to dealing with products that come in different sizes and colors we've run into one issue. I searched the forum and the help section without finding the answer.

The problem concerns a subproducts name. In shopsite the products name must be unique. If you are setting up subproducts you soon start to duplicate the names. (well, it doesnt allow you to have the same product name)

For example, lets say you sell shirts and hats. Many shirts and many hats. You set up shirt ABC which comes in numerous colors and sizes, for example Red Small, Red Med, etc.. You set up Red Small, Red Med, etc.. each as a separate sub product with its own part number.

Once that shirt is setup you then go onto setting up a hat. Lets say hat 123. This hat comes in the same color and size perimeters as the hat. So you have Red Small, Red Med, etc.. Once again setting up each size/color as its own part number.


For either example, you use the color/size as the products name. Which since it will be duplicated, poses a problem.

Our question is, whats the work around to this?

Product names do not have to be unique! However you can not use the Copy option to create another product by the same name. You can create products with duplicate names through the Add a Product, Add Several Products or through a database upload. If you have duplicate product names then you must have unique SKU values for each of the products.
