choosing payment type by product

OK, here is what I am trying to do. We use shopsite with Order Manager for all of our products. We have started selling a subscription based service through the site. The problem is that anyone that buys the subscription with paypal can't be re-billed on a monthly basis like my credit card people can be.

I want to be able to choose not to allow paypal as a payment method when the customer has the subscription item in their shopping cart.

The hosting company that we use tells me this could possibly be attempted using javascript. I am not a javascript wizard. I have browsed the net looking for a type of script like this that I could maybe edit for my needs, but I have found nothing.

Anyone else have ideas for me or maybe sample code I can look at?
