Page File Name question

Postby RandyS » Sun Mar 11, 2007 12:43 pm

I have always allowed Shopsite to create it's own Page file names (eg. "page13.html") but I realize that my site's categories ranking is poor. I have changed one Page to a product category-related name, and I notice that the old "numbered" Page still exists - although Shopsite no longer sees it or updates it on publish.

Since these old numbered Pages still come up in Google and other search engine queries, can I (or should I) try to modify the old pages to point to the new renamed ones? Should I leave them alone? Or should I delete them?

I am running Shopsite 7.1.4.1

Just do a permanent redirect to the new pages from a .htaccess file:

Code: Select all
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^page123.html newpage.html [R=301]

Thank you very much for the fast and straightforward response. I will implement this in the near future.
