Reset image attributes - some images still have a border

Postby Stephane Gervais » Wed Mar 06, 2002 8:02 pm

I don't usually work on the merchant backend of the cart so there's a good
chance I don't know what I am doing. I DO install ShopSite a lot so I
(think) I know what I am doing there.

I assume that if you FTP images to the 'media' directory and then "Reset
image attributes" it will add the size, spacing and "border=0" to all the
images.

On ShopSite 6 (Linux) with over 400 images, some .gif, .GIF and .jpg some
don't get these attributes. All the .jpg images did but not all the others.

I am trying to upgrade and move a site to a new server. The upgrade went
fine on the old server (I don't think I did the "Reset image attributes" but
I'm not sure), everything looks and works fine there. Everything seems to
work fine on the new server except for the ugly blue borders on some of the
images.

Any one else encounter this problem? Any one have any idea where else I can
look? (Nothing in the knowledgebase)

Stephane,

I had this same problem when I uploaded the images the first time in SS5.0. I then had to do a power edit for the Image and More Information Page Image on all the products, select the image again from the media directory (it should be already there), Save, Publish, and the blue borders were gone.

Jimmy,

Thanks, tried it but no change. I even tried to "Reset All Attributes"
again but no change.

Try it with one product. Go to Edit Product Info. On the Image, click the top button and select an image. That's what I did to get rid of the blue borders after uploading all the images. If not, it's Loren's turn.

Stephane and others.

The problem is that the images are named .gif but they are really .jpg images.
ShopSite reads the file info from the header of the file to determine how big
the image
is so that it can create the width and height attributes. Since the image said
it
was a .gif format ShopSite tries to read that type of header and since it
couldn't
it was unable to set the appropriate attributes.

I found out why this was occuring when I tried to open the image in PhotoPaint
and couldn't because it was an invalid file format. I then compared the header
of the file with the problem to a .jpg file and found that they matched.
Evidently browsers don't go by the file extension when opening a file so there
wasn't a problem displaying the file.

Jim,

Thank you, that was it, the .gif files were in fact JPEG images.

I spoke with the developer and he renamed the images and uploaded, etc.
and it worked. Interesting to note is that these same images came from a ver
5 of ShopSite and did not cause a problem there.
