deleting old/unused pages and images

Postby jackiedec » Mon Mar 05, 2007 8:21 am

My client changes product page names every once in awhile and the content on that page. Shopsite creates the new page, but doesn't remove the old page. So that page is still accessable via a search engine with the old content.

Is there a way to have these pages automatically deleting if they are not being used?

likewise with images.

If you have server access you could just delete the pages using the
command line with something like rm page*.html or rm product*.html (or
on windows del page*.html). Without server access you could create a
dummy page in ShopSite with the page filename that you want to delete
and then delete that page and the associated file will be deleted.

My client has access to the server, but the problem is that he can't keep track of the page names and images that change. He has several people working on the site. The above only works if you know which pages to delete.

Are all pages in the store being generated by ShopSite? Or do they have some files that were created in another application and then ftpd to the store output directory?

If all pages are being generated by ShopSite then you could just delete all .html file in the output directory and republish the store which would recreate all the ones that they have in the ShopSite database.
