question about Froogle feed generator

Postby ryan@ddm » Fri Feb 23, 2007 9:26 am

SS 8.2.1.1. Pro, Solaris-SPARC:

How long should the Froogle feed generator sit at the 'Waiting for Google to Validate Your feed ...' stage? I can't seem to get the feed generator to run to completion.

I've setup things per the instructions, I run the feed generator and log in successfully to my Base account, froogle.cgi cranks away (60% or more CPU time; runs for about 30 seconds). During this time, the page shows 'Generating your XML Data File...' and then 'done'.

The page then displays 'Waiting for Google to Validate Your feed ...' but no more CGI's appear to be running. I've waited for 10+ minutes on this several times but the page appears to hang here.

Any ideas?

Google validates every image url that is submitted as well as a bunch of other data about your site. If you have more than 3-400 items that you are submitting the cgis will timeout before google can send back the data. This is a known issue and we are working on a fix for it.

The items may have been submitted successfully to google so go to your Goggle Base admin screen and see if they are listed.

Gotcha. I'm submitting about 2000 items so a timeout is inevitable, it seems.

Checking in my Google base account, it seems they were not successfully transferred.

No problem, I'll keep using the Gagglebyte froogle feed preparation app until this SS issue is resolved.

I have been trying for 2 days to upload my database to Froogle using the back office of ShopSite. It keeps giving me a Google failure code. I tried doing it in batches of 900 or so products and that seems to work. Looks like this feature needs more work.

In the next version of ShopSite there will be an FTP connection method as an option (instead of the gBase API connection method) for merchants with a lot of products.

Is there presently a way to generate teh file and save it on my local machine so I can use my FTP program to send it up to Google?

Froogle Base Upload Directs To Home Page

Postby jguliano » Fri Mar 30, 2007 9:56 am

After making about 10 attempts at uploading chunks to Froogle using ShopSite I THINK I have most of my products up there. There are a few problems though.

1. It appears that doing it in chunks if you overlap products in the uploads it creates the product listing more than once on Froogle.

2. All the Froogle links go to the home page instead of the actual product page. This is a total waste of time since people will not find the product and they will just bounce back to Froogle.

3. Has anyone out there used the ShopSite Froogle upload system and seen it actualy work?
