Product / Category / Page Hierarchy

Postby deb_w » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:07 pm

My question is about the hierarchy / structure of categories of products.

We are setting up a t shirt business with shopsite. Our store pages will be built around "themes" such as funny shirts, military shirts, christian shirts, horse shirts, band shirts, etc. In addition we have many colors of shirts that come in many sizes.

There are several shirt designs that fit in multiple theme categories. (i.e. shirt 1 will fit for categories of "women", "floral", "christian") I'm trying to figure out the best architecture so that shopsite will automatically include a single design in these multiple categories during the generation of store pages during the publish process. I understand that this can be done one product at a time, but I need an automated solution.

Any ideas on how to best handle this? Should I use one of the defineable fields to assign a category code? If so, can those fields hold multiple values? (BTW, I will be using MS Access to upload/download the product database).

I'm assuming that shopsite drop down boxes (ordering options) will take care of shirt color and shirt size.

Any inisight that you can offer will be much appreciated.

Deb

P.s. I use Manager but could upgrade to Pro if necessary.

If you are using Access or Excel you can just specify which pages you want the products to appear on in the database and upload. The "Product On Pages" or "Add to Pages" fields would be where you would put it... and only use one, not both.
