Coupon disallowed for discounted order?

Postby Kaye Thomas » Tue Jan 30, 2007 1:11 pm

I want people with a coupon code to be able to use the coupon for as many items as they want when paying full price, but not be able to use the coupon when they reach the volume where they get a bulk discount. Is there a way to do this?

No. If the products qualify for a coupon the value of the coupon will be applied to cart. It is not based on the individual price of a product.

That's unfortunate. Seems to me it would be an easy feature to add, just a checkbox on the screen where we design the coupon for "Not allowed with volume discount" and some fairly simple code.

Anyway, for anyone else with this problem I'll describe my workaround. I have to enter the affected products twice so there's one version of the product that allows volume discounts but no coupon and another that allows the coupon but no volume discount. Then of course I need web pages that say something like "You must click here if you want a volume discount." The regular "add to cart" goes to the product that accepts coupons, and this alternate one goes to the one that accepts volume discounts. It's kind of clunky but if I design the web pages well enough it should work.
