Custom Perl templates in ShopSite 6?

Postby Jason Rush » Fri Mar 01, 2002 12:35 pm

Can a developer still create a custom perl template in ShopSite 6?

In ShopSite 5, naming a perl style template in such a way that the name
began with numbers, the page was parsed using Perl. In ShopSite6 Beta, this
does not seem to work. Has this feature been removed in ShopSite 6?

Yes, no perl templates in ShopSite 6. This makes the Publish much faster.
ShopSite has always recommended that the perl templates not be modified for this
reason, and has never supported any perl template modifications.

Pretty much anything that can be done in a normal ShopSite template can now (v6)
be done in a custom template using the Custom Template specification found
here: http://www.shopsite.com/help/6.0/en-US/ ... intro.html

The thing that comes to mind that custom templates still can't do is
sub-products/cross-sell, but that is about it.

How do I set up columns on a custom templated page?
(eg. 3 columns per row with multiple rows of products as seen here:
http://www.rockcreekmeats.com/e-store/chops.shtml )
That was the whole reason we ever made our own Perl templates based on the
default templates.

See the Custom Template Specification in the documentation I pointed to before.
Actually, here is the direct link:

http://www.shopsite.com/help/6.0/en-US/ ... .spec.html

See in the Product Tags section, that a 'numcolumns' variable has been added to
the LOOP tags, it is explained under the LOOP PRODUCTS section.

Cool. I like the addition of settings your own variables.

Sorry that I missed it before. I glanced over the document and it looked
like the same specification as the one for 5.0

Thanks for the explanation.

Very cool. Nice that you've added those features. I can now use custom
templates more globally.

Very exciting...
