New server and IP address with ShopSite

Postby kosibar » Sat Dec 02, 2006 10:57 pm

I provide a hosting service to someone who uses the ShopSite software. I'm not a hosting partner. His previous hosting company was and when he moved to us he purchased his own package from ShopSite.

Now we are renumbering our network and taking the opportunity to update some hardware. The ShopSite store needs to move to a new server (Pentium D vs. Pentium 3 that is it on now, updated version of Linux on 2.6 kernel vs. 2.4 - Slackware 11) and a new IP address.

What do I need to do to successfully move his ShopSite store for him?

You can find instructions on moving a store in the ShopSite help at

Thank you. I had seen that but it leaves many questions unanswered. I am not moving from one server with ShopSite to another server with ShopSite. The help page describes how to move the data from one installation to another, but leaves me with a choice of which data I am moving. I need to move the entire ShopSite system.

This installation has the ShopSite software installed on his own account on the server which is my biggest concern. Will the software copy over okay?

I had emailed someone at your company directly and he assured me that as long as it is the same type of system that it is moving to, this will be no problem. I did do a test and it seemed to be working okay, but in my test the store was still accessing the old secure server, so there is a large portion of the system that I was unable to test. However, I think I will be okay by just making a tarball of the entire user directory and dropping it into the new server. I hope so, anyway!

Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns and respond. I appreciate your assistance.
