Temporarily shut down ordering in store

Postby ajlewis2 » Tue Dec 05, 2006 4:52 am

We are not going to be able to ship for a number of months. We would like to leave the store available, but indicate that items are not available until a certain date. We would also like to have a link to a page with further explanation.

Do you have a suggestion on how this could be accomplished? If not, how do I shut the store down completely without removing all the data?

Thanks,
Anita

You could create a custom product template and assign it to all your products. In the template remove the add to cart and view cart buttons and replace the Add To Cart button with link text or a button that is an href to your page with further information about your store being closed until the date when you will be able to ship products again. (Make sure you do this on the moreinfo section of the product template also if you use more info pages. Then publish the store so all existing pages are overwritten with ones having the link instead of the add to cart buttons.

The way to close a store is to remove the <storeID>.auth file in the stores data directory. (<storeID> would be the login name you use to get into the backoffice of the store) Your html pages will not be removed doing this but it will make it so no items can be added to the cart, ordered or searched for and you will not be able to work in the backoffice of the store.

Jim, thank you so very much for your help. I did have to plug away a bit to find a template that I knew enough to edit. Some of them had one INCLUDE too many for me :)

Your assistance did the trick. Thanks again!!
