Inventory and product options - any way to...?

Postby tcguide » Wed Nov 01, 2006 1:53 pm

I want to have a total inventory for example of 100. I am selling separate items which come in different sizes. Item A may be 1 unit. Item B may be 2 units. I need to have the proper amount deducted from inventory for each item ordered. If I create a single product with drop down options for A and B, it won't deduct inventory proper. If I create separate products, there is no way to deduct from total inventory.

Any ideas?

The Stone Edge Order Manager (www.StoneEdge.com/OrderManager.htm) would give you a couple of ways to handle that. The simplest would be to set up individual SKUs for each quantity. In the Order Manager, you would configure each of those SKUs as a "kit". Kit A would consist of one unit, and Kit B would have two.

Example: You sell bottles of something in single bottles, carriers of 6 bottles, and cases of 24. In ShopSite, you would just have SKUs B1, B6 and B24. In the Order Manager, you would set up B6 as a kit consisting of 6 pieces of B1. B24 would have 24 pieces of B1. When you import your orders (or enter mail/phone/email orders manually into the Order Manager), the program will deduct the proper number of B1's needed for each order. There are other ways it could be handled, but that would be the easiest.

Thanks Barney. You're software is quite versitile but it does not solve my real time inventory issue. We need real time inventory, so if it is not available, the item cannot be ordered.

The situation is we have a limited amount of square feet to rent out for an event. Depening on what booth space is selected, different amounts of sq ft are used. I'm trying to get exact amounts from the client to see if units will be whole or factional.

In a perfect world all booth spaces would be preset and solve the problem but they want the flexibility to mix and match to fill up. Not my way, but it is the clients so so be it

Sounds like it's time to contact ShopSite and encourage them to expand their real time inventory tracking system so that it can work with external systems like the Order Manager!
