How to upload image(s) with an order

Hi,

I would like to be able to upload an image or images with an order. This is handy for example someone wanting to order logo merchandise and needing to send the logo for it. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?
It appears one could use the custom API to go to an upload script. Wondering if there is an easier way.

Does anyone know how to build a script that would upload a file and change the name of it to the order number?

Is it even possible?
