General ShopSite user discussion

You must specify a valid value for: storeid .

PRO 8.1.2 - This error comes up every time with one of my installations (stores). I have the latest updates from Windows both on my browser and on my server (Windows 2003). Using IE, this error pops up. Using Netscape or Firefox, there is no error. The ShopSite knowledge base solution S04243 doesn't seems to address this NEW problem. The referred to Microsoft article explains to use a specific Windows Update and that it has been fixed in subsequent Windows Updates. This is false as I have all updates installed.

I've asked people in another part of the country to try and they come up with the same error.

I'm using ShopSite Pro with a regular retail store and get orders daily but I have seen the error once in a while.

In my current application, I'm posting from a secured area (password protected directory) to ShopSite using a Form. It always shows this error. My customers can not order anything if they are using IE and most people that use a computer use IE.

Clearing cache and cookies and starting from a fresh browser does not fix the problem.

There has to be something that can address this issue. Anybody have any ideas?

Error in Form!

Need more info!

What url are you using where you see this error?

You say "In my current application, I'm posting from a secured area (password protected directory) to ShopSite using a Form." So are you doing this outside of ShopSite or is ShopSite generating the urls?

Frequently this type of error occurs if the storeid is duplicated because you have several forms on a page and one of them isn't closed properly so the storeid values are concatenated into a single values.

I set up a password protected directory on a windows 2003 server. I then put a single form on the page that only has one storeid value. This is not a ShopSite page that I'm posting the form from.

I just went in and enabled anonymous access ( no username and password required), reloaded the page, and hit the Add to Cart button and... it worked. No error.

I disbale anonymous access and require the user name and password to see the page and then I get the error again.

At least that pinpoints how and when this error occurs.

I'm still working on a solution since I need to control access to only a specific set of shoppers (those we drop ship for).

Because password-protecting a directory on Windows via IIS causes the webserver to change the user it is running as (the webserver will switch to run as whatever user you logged in as) you could see all kinds of weird problems. This kind of password protection works fine for UNIX-based servers because logging in via the .htaccess password protection does not modify the user the webserver is running as, it is for authentication purposes only.

On Windows, rather than password-protect via the webserver, I would suggest some kind of ASP in all of your pages that you want protected so that the content of the pages is not displayed unless the shopper has logged in via some ASP login mechanism. You can probably find ASP login scripts out there on the web somewhere, or perhaps if you are a Windows ASP programmer you may already have an idea of how to do that.

Instead of creating my own page, I thought I'd try to use a Shopsite generated page and just put my form on that page.

I made the folder which contains the Shopsite page require the user name and password and it worked.

I did get the error on another computer but after closing the browser and using a fresh one, the form was able to post correctly to the shopping cart.

I need to have other people test the page but for now it works on my end. Hopefully, this working is not a fluke. :)

Hadn't thought about ASP as I'm unfamiliar with it but if I run into any more issues, I may have to look into it.
