Germany raises taxes and I see my christmas holiday wasted

Postby Nikolaus Gruchot » Thu Jul 20, 2006 3:37 am

Dear folks,

First of January 2007 Germany will see the highest ever VAT tax increase in
our history. VAT will raise from 16 to 19% overnight. In Germany we are
required to list all pricing to the end consumer INCLUDING VAT. This means
our online shop will need an overnight price update.

As for the prices in the "Price" field this is no problem. Download the
products/prices into excel, do the math and upload again. But I am a bit
lost with the pricings contained in the "Pull-down Menues" (the drop down
options for each product). I see this field as one set of data containing
multiple prices. In our case also complicated by the fact that shopsite
still does not properly support the EU number format. Our drop down menues
entry still have to have the following format (note the comma and dot):

140061 mit Schaumstoffeinlage (standard)
140062 leer, ohne Schaumstoff (-5,50 Euro);-5.50

Is there any decent way to update these pricing informations using the
computer rather then giving my christmas holiday away by manually typing in
the new prices (nightmare!!!).

Any helpful hint is appreciated :-))

Best regards,

Niko

The easiest way to do a mass update such as this is with a database upload. You can upload the product name, sku, and "Option Finite Text" for the ordering options. This way you can format the data in excel or an access db for easier updating. The format for "Option Finite Text" in a db upload is:

Separate options with |n|, and separate groups of options with |n||n|

Hope that helps to make the transition a bit smoother. :)
