How to Add Thumbnail In Shopping Cart?

Postby Larry Bohen » Sun Jun 04, 2006 3:25 pm

Using ShopSite Pro, how would I add a thumbnail of each product ordered into
the shopping cart?

This is currently not possible but it has been requested as an enhancement.

We have about 10,000 audiobook cover images at our Web store. Will I have to
create 10,000 thumbnails (a massive job) or will ShopSite / Pro somehow
magically reduce their size?

Using a custom search product template you could include a thumbnail
with search results.

There is no utility in ShopSite that will create thumbnails. There are
however, a number of utilities available that can create thumbnails of
all the files in a directory so it shouldn't be to hard to convert that
many. Just do a web search for "freeware thumbnail create". I'm pretty
sure that other applications such as Photoshop also can create
thumbnails for all files in a directory.

Here is a free program that works very well for creating thumbnails. It
is a desktop application by Fookes Software, the same company that
publishes the Notetab software. I don't know if it is Ok to include
links but here goes.

Tumbnails

Hello - I have all my thumbnails from an old site but can't tell how to include them? I don't see a thumbnails field in the product data import fields. Any ideas?

Thanks

(Note that you responded to a very old post. Since that post ShopSite has added the ability to create and use resized images internally.)

ShopSite uses thumbnails that it creates, you can't upload your own version. When you upload an image into ShopSite you can have it create upto 3 resized version of the image. These images are located in subdirectories of the directory where the image is uploaded to. The subdirectories are named
ss_size1, ss_size2, ss_size3 and contain images which have been resize based on the setting you have configured.

To use the resized images in the shopping cart you select the size from a pulldown menu on the Commerce Setup > Order System > Layout Info screen. There is also checkboxes that needs to be checked to indicate you want to use the image size specified.

Help on using the image resize functionality is found at
http://www.shopsite.com/help/9.0/en-US/ ... mages.html
and links off of that page.

Resized images can also be specified for the Product image, More information page image and search results image. You will find a dropdown list and checkbox in the settings screens for each of those features

Thanks Jim

I was looking into your notes and then realized that I am using 8.3. Is 9.0 really out already? Wow. Are these image functions not available in 8.3?

I am thinking that I may be able to simply indicate in my products template a % size that I want my images to be for a basic thumbnail and the in the more info template(haven't looked in that one yet) show the full size version. SHould this approach work?

Thanks for the help

I posted the 9.0 help link in error, it will be out shortly. Just replace the 9.0 with 8.3 and you will have the help for that version. http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/ ... mages.html

You just use the normal image tags, you do not and cannot use a % size to indicate which image to use. If you want to specify other images you could always include the image name or complete url in one of the extra product fields and then use that for building the html to display your alternate image. But the simplest way is to just use the [-- product.graphic --] tag and let ShopSite do its job and create the appropriate html for the image size you selected.
