Real Time UPS shipping

Postby Rick Steven » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:38 am

If we use the real time UPS shipping calcs for our cart, what will happen if
the UPS servers are down?

This actually happened a couple weeks ago. I forget the specific text of the
error message customers received, but it did prevent orders from being
processed. I called UPS and they verified it was a problem on their end,
which lasted about an hour.

Thanks Kory,

So if I understand correctly, ShopSite will not respond to a server timeout
with a message saying shipping rates are currently offline and to call us or
process the order, etc.

What actually happens when the UPS server is down? Does ShopSite give an
error message, or just hang...?

Thank you very much and have a great day,

If the UPS rate server is down entirely and is unreachable, ShopSite will
return an error message that is configurable in the "Configure UPS" section
of the backoffice. However, if the UPS rate servers are accepting
connections but do not return a response (i.e. their rate server gets hung
up), then ShopSite will wait until the webserver times out, and at that
point an error page comes up that is not configurable (and is potentially
confusing to the customer).

In either scenario, the customer will not be able to check out unless in the
first scenario you have other shipping options besides UPS the customer can
choose from.

We have seen the UPS rate servers get hung up and be down from time to time,
but UPS is usually quick to correct this.

Can't find page to delete it

Postby Carol Arnette » Fri May 26, 2006 6:53 am

I inherited a Shopsite site to maintain and there are some pages that are on
the web named page1, page2 etc. There are no longer links to these pages
but I want to delete them. They are not on the list of pages I can edit
when I go into Shopsite. Any suggestions on where they are hiding?

Thanks,

Carol

These html pages were probably created by ShopSite because a filename
was not specified when a page was initially created in the ShopSite
backoffice. The page was then edited and a filename added so the html
for these pages was left as an orphan page. If you have access to the
output directory of the store by ftp or telnet you can manually delete
the pages through that interface. If you don't have access to the
output directory you could create a dummy page in ShopSite and specify
the filename for that page as page1.html (or whatever page you want to
delete) and then delete that page from the ShopSite backoffice and the
page should be deleted.
