ShopSite vs. Order Manager Totals

Postby Larry Bohen » Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:58 am

We imported an order this morning that used a coupon to get an additional 5%
off. The ShopSite total, as placed by the customer is $63.56 vs. an Order
Manager total of $61.36. The difference is that ShopSite didn't adjust the
shipping charges after the customer applied the coupon, but upon importing,
Order Manager did. The coupon savings reduces the product total to a lower
shipping cost according to Order Manager.

Here are the numbers: ShopSite Order Manager

Product Total $56.48 $56.48
Coupon ($ 2.82) ($ 2.82)
Shipping $ 9.90 $ 7.70
Total $63.56 $61.36
-$ 2.20

We haven't noticed this behavior in the past.

In that the same amount of product is being shipped, the shipping cost in
Order Manager should stay the same.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

I would appreciate someone from ShopSite letting me know if ShopSite should
be calculating (adjusting) shipping costs after a coupon is applied by a
customer.

What does the order look like in the back office? That is what was
actually charged so Order manager should match that. If it doesn't,
either there is a problem with Order manager or with the xml download.
Do a manual xml download from the back office and see if the information
that is downloaded matches the backoffice amounts. If they do then the
problem is with Order Manager.

The coupon itself is subtracted from the product total not the order
total so it should reduce the amount that shipping will be charged on
only if shipping is being calculated on the $ amount of the order.

I should have mentioned that shipping is calculated on the amount of product
dollars (shipping by currency).

The order in the Back Office looks exactly like the one that we printed and
has the same numbers as my earlier post. I.E. ShopSite did not adjust the
shipping cost after the coupon was applied.

I checked the shipping cost table in the Back Office and confirmed that the
shipping rates are correct.

If I understand your comment below, ShopSite should have reduced the
shipping cost after the coupon was applied.

Jim; I did a test this morning and put a couple of audiobooks in my shopping
cart. The product total was $27.95 which resulted in a shipping options
including Priority Mail Insured of $7.70. $7.70 applies to product totals
from $27.01 - $55.00.

I applied a 5% off coupon and although the product total changed to $26.55,
the shipping options stayed at the same costs. The Priority Mail Insured
shipping cost up to $27.00 product total is $5.50.

From your comments below, I understand that ShopSite should adjust the
shipping options, if appropriate, after a coupon is applied.

Unless I am missing something, ShopSite is mis-ehaving.

Larry,
I talked to the engineer who works on the shopping cart calculations. He
said that shipping is calculated on the product total before any coupon
is applied. So the amount of shipping is not reduced if a coupon drops
the product total to a lower shipping bracket.

So I was incorrect in my initial statement.

The descrepency between ShopSite and Order Manager should not exist,
however, since Order manager should be reporting what was actually
charged and collected for the order based on values downloaded from
ShopSite. It should not be recalculating values.

I have entered an enhancement request, to be considered for a release,
to see if the order of applying coupons and other discounts could be
made more customizable by the merchant.

Will you folks communicate with Stone Edge Technologies so that Order
Manager is in sync with ShopSite or do I do that?

Larry -

Please give me a call about this issue. In the meantime, if you set the
system parameters AdjustShippingCharges and AdjustShippingAtRecalc both to
False, that may solve your problem.

Re: ShopSite vs. Order Manager Totals

Postby Larry Bohen » Sun May 07, 2006 10:30 am

Jim; I have just implemented a "FREE Media Mail Shipping for Order $50 or
More." In that our shipping is based on currency, I changed all the Media
Mail shipping rates for order $50 or more to $0.00. Media Mail shipping
rates for less than $50 orders remain the same as we have had for some time.
I.E. There is a shipping cost.

I placed a sample order just over $50 and the shopping cart correctly stated
the Media Mail cost as $0.00. When I applied a savings coupon the total went
below $50 and because ShopSite doesn't recalculate shipping cost after a
coupon is applied, the Media Mail shipping cost remained at $0.00. I would
like Shopsite to recalculate after a savings coupon is applied and in my
sample order case, my shipping cost would have been $X rather than $0.00.

Could the enhancement (recalculate shipping cost after a savings coupon is
applied) to ShopSite be implemented as a patch rather than be included in a
release?
