More Information Pages Not Updating During Regeneration

Postby Cheryl » Mon Jan 30, 2006 1:16 pm

Hi!

I've put together a custom product template with a More Information Page
definition, uploaded the template, told the product what template to use...
All was fine. Then I updated the template.

I've gone to Utilities>Publish, and checked the "Subproduct's More Info
Pages published using their own custom template" box, and regenerated the
whole site. (I've also tried unchecking the box/ choosing a different
template/ just publishing instead of regenerating the site/ renaming the
More Information page to a new name/ uploading the new template again... and
again.../ editing the uploaded template to be sure it really was there....

Although I have been able to get a More Information page with the new name--
everything I try keeps the page with the old template. Could there be an
error in the template that keeps it from being used to generate the new
page?? I guess I'll take another look at the template to see if I can find
any code errors.

Any ideas??

Have you checked the box under Edit Product Info to create Moreinfo
pages? If it was checked previously but is not checked now the old page
would be there and never updated.

Does you product template have a define section for the moreinfo page?

Thanks for the reply!

I double checked -- I have the box under the Edit Product Info to create a
Moreinfo page checked.

In the product template, I have a [-- DEFINE MORE_INFO_PAGE --] section at
the bottom of the page, and a [-- DEFINE SUBPRODUCT --] section at the top
of the page.

I don't know for sure but maybe the position in the template is making a

difference. Try moving the [-- DEFINE MORE_INFO_PAGE --] section to the
top of the template and see if that makes a difference.

I have the order of the "Define" sections as in the ShopSite template Help
example-- but I will move it to try.

How about this-- since I'm using customized templates, what if I've
specified the use of a particular More Info Page template from within a
customized template...? I checked the Page template... and I'm not
overridding the template there....

Oh-- if a product is on two pages, and one page specifies a product
definition that does not have a More Info template defined, and the other
does not specify a product template - expects the default product template
to be used.... That could be it, couldn't it? The More Info Page isn't
being rewritten because there is no template in the first product
definition.... only in the default template being used on the second
page....

I'm going to remove the product from the first page, regnerate, and then add
it back to the first page.

Wish me luck!

I think you may have found the problem. The moreinfo page will only be
generated once during a publish. If the product template doesn't have a
moreinfo section then when the product is generated no moreinfo page
will be created. If the product appears on another page using a
different product template the moreinfo page would not be created
because a flag is set when the first page is published saying the
product's moreinfo page has been published even though your template
didn't have a define moreinfopage section.

If you want to be sure that you always have moreinfo pages make sure you
have the define more_info_page section in the template.

Re: More Information Pages Not Updating During Regeneration

Thanks Jim!

Yes, that was it exactly. One of the product definitions was not updated,
and the More Info page was being generated off this defintion. When it got
to the next definition, it realized it had already made a More Info page, so
did not change it.

I had made a Featured Product definition for the home page, and had a
product specific template for the product on "it's" page. I just didn't
connect that the Featured product definition ... was really a definition...
how's that for a newb!

Thanks for letting me talk it all out -- I know if I hadn't asked all of you
on the forum, it would have taken me many more hours of stumbling around to
figure it out!
