Cart Error Alerts

Hi All,

I have a problem which seems to be confusing some shoppers. If fields
are missed on the Checkout page when the form is submitted, an error
message appears that says "Error. Please fil in -" where "-" is the
text description of whatever field is missing.

When Javascript is enabled, it comes up in a pop-up alert box and just
shows plain text, so all is well.

If the customer has Javascript disabled, the alert appers in a yellow
alert box at the top of the webpage. The problem is, the text
description uses the full code that was in the text field, with HTML.
The formatting of the text field (we have some of the fields, like
"phone number" hyperlinked to a more information Pop-up window) confuses
customers as to which field is actually in error.

Is there any way to strip the HTML out of the error message so it just
shows the text part of the field description?
