Front Page Hot Spot Question

Postby Dan Richards » Sun Dec 23, 2001 9:47 am

Hi,

I have an logo image map with hot spots that I want to use for my universal
header, however when I put it in shopsite, it ignores it? Any ideas why?

Thanks

Limit characters in option text box?

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Sun Dec 23, 2001 10:19 am

Hi,

Is there any way to limit the number of characters a client can fill in to
the options text box? (For engraving limits for a trophy site)

"The example also has the Create Text Entry Field box checked, which causes
a text-entry field to appear below your instructions and the pull-down
menus. This provides a place for the customer to enter any information you
might need to ask for, such as a name or initials to personalize an item."

Thanks, Kevin

Ignores it in what way? Does it not even display the image? Or is it
just a problem with the hot spots?

Hi Loren,

It totally ignores the image and hotspots, if I cut the code and past it
into FP, it's fine.

You put the HTML in your Universal Header, made sure your pages included
the Universal Header checkbox, then re-Published? What is the URL to one
of your pages with this code in it? There is not any way that ShopSite
would 'ignore' anything you put in the Universal Header field unless the
pages aren't set to use the Universal Header or haven't been published,
but it IS possible that the HTML is bad and won't display on the page
correctly.

Hi Loren,

I took it out of the universal header because all my pages were messed up.
I then put the code into a single page in the text1 box:

here is the html:
****************************************************************************
*
<div align="center"><center>

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="90%">
<tr>
<td><div align="center"><center><table BORDER="0" CELLSPACING="0"
CELLPADDING="0"
WIDTH="684">
<tr>
<td width="684"><p align="center"><!--webbot bot="ImageMap"
rectangle="(542,69) (607, 134)
http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/cgi-ab ... i?storeid=
aboutrubberstamps&amp;amp;function=show"
rectangle="(432,69) (489, 134)
http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/amazonbooks.html"
rectangle="(243,68) (307, 132)
http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/embossingsupplies.html"
rectangle="(176,66) (239, 133)
http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/inkpad ... plies.html"
rectangle="(105,66) (174, 133)

rectangle="(39,68) (100, 132)

src="http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/media/Bar-large.gif"
alt="rubber stamps and rubber stamps accessories" border="0"
width="648" height="138" --></td>
</tr>
</table>
</center></div></td>
</tr>
</table>
</center></div>
****************************************************************************
******

It still does not publish the image. The page is
http://www.aboutrubberstamps.com/acrylic.html

Thanks for the help.

PS. I used to work for Open Market in Boston. You guys must be glad you're
on your own. I still think Shopsite is easy to use, and am looking forward
to the next release.

ShopSite is publishing it to the page just as you are putting it in the

Text 1 field. But your HTML is incorrect. The <!-- begins an HTML
comment and anything after it until the --> will not be displayed. You
need to find the correct HTML syntax for an image map and fix the HTML
and it should work. Any good HTML book should have that.

It's really strange, If I publish the html just as it is in Frontpage and

It's probably that the "webbot bot="ImageMap"" crap is some special FrontPage
stuff that they actually iterpret when it is published. You can look at the HTML
source of the FrontPage-published page to see what it looks like when it is
actually working, rather than using the HTML from inside of FrontPage. It sucks
that FrontPage would do something like that, but I am not at all suprised.

Re: Front Page Hot Spot Question

Postby Katrina Morris » Thu Jan 03, 2002 3:51 pm

Hi Dan,

Yeah, that little Webbot thingy is generated by FrontPage and needs
FrontPage extensions on the server to deliver to the browser correctly. It's
Microsoft's way of getting people to use their NT servers, which aren't very
good.

Try going to builder.com and searching for a more universal code that will
work across browsers and servers....

You put the HTML in your Universal Header, made sure your pages
included
the Universal Header checkbox, then re-Published? What is the URL
to
one
of your pages with this code in it? There is not any way that
ShopSite
would 'ignore' anything you put in the Universal Header field
unless
the
pages aren't set to use the Universal Header or haven't been
published,
but it IS possible that the HTML is bad and won't display on the
page
correctly.

-Loren

ShopSite is publishing it to the page just as you are putting it in
the
Text 1 field. But your HTML is incorrect. The <!-- begins an HTML
comment and anything after it until the --> will not be displayed. You
need to find the correct HTML syntax for an image map and fix the HTML
and it should work. Any good HTML book should have that.

Ignores it in what way? Does it not even display the image? Or
is it
just a problem with the hot spots?

Re: Front Page Hot Spot Question

Hi Katrina,

That's what I thought. When I asked my isp to install the extentions, they
recommended that I don't. So I did what you suggest, and it works perfect.

Thanks for the note.

Hi Dan,

Yeah, that little Webbot thingy is generated by FrontPage and needs
FrontPage extensions on the server to deliver to the browser correctly.
It's
Microsoft's way of getting people to use their NT servers, which aren't
very
good.

Try going to builder.com and searching for a more universal code that will
work across browsers and servers....

Hi Loren,

It's really strange, If I publish the html just as it is in Frontpage
and
not in SS, it works just fine. I decided to use imagemap software and
it
works just fine. Thanks for the help.

so
here it is again at the top:
