Gift Certificates

Postby Switch Hits » Thu Dec 20, 2001 8:02 am

Since no one came up with any gift certificate solutions on this forum a
while back, I thought I'd give you an update with a rather easy solution.

Basically, I just created a product called Gift Certificate
http://www.switchhits.com/giftcertificates.html, adding options for
different gift amounts. I then added a gift certificate link to the footer
so a reminder appears on every page.

Office Depot or Office Max has 3-up gift certificate paper. I came up with
a template and print them on my computer. For the Claim Code I enter a
combination of the Shop Site/StoneEdge Order Manager order numbers/Order
Date so it would be hard to cheat.

To claim a gift certificate, the recipient has Gift Certificate as a payment
option. I set this up by going to Preferences>Store Text>Checkout> Generic
Payment Option 1: adding "Gift Certificate" and >Generic Payment Option 1
Field 1: adding "Gift Claim Code", where the customer will add the claim
code at checkout. I just match the claim code with all the information in
the StoneEdge Order Manager order and...

Voila. It's not a sophisticated automated process but it doesn't take much
time and it works. Simple if you think about it.
