Sounds like mail being sent from your server is no longer working.
Anonymously FTP to shopsite.com, cd to the perl directory, retrieve the perl
script testmail.cgi and install it in the same directory as the shopping
basket CGIs with the same permissions and then run it from your browser. If
you still get an error message it strongly points to a server
config/permissions issue.

Re: Option Level Inventory Management

Postby Switch Hits » Sat Jul 07, 2001 11:06 am

I have items where one product can have up to 400 different option
combinations and inventory tracking is a breeze with StoneEdge's Product
Mananger. Check it out at www.stoneedge.com. And Barney, the chief
programmer is so customer service oriented you'll love him and his product.
I would also recommend StoneEdge Order Manager. Together with ShopSite,
this makes for one very, very, very powerful ecommerce program.

Are there any plans at ShopSite to make the inventory manager work on the
option level (i.e. for a product with different colors you could track the
inventory for each color)??

We sell shoes, and desperately need to be able to track inventory (and
offer
the customer a way of tracking it online). If ShopSite doesn't have plans
to
integrate option level inventory tracking, or even customer accounts where
the customer could log-in and check the status of a backordered product,
we
may be forced to find another product.

Any news on what's goint to be in the next version??

Re: Shopping Cart Delay Killing Me

Katrina,
Tried your site. Took about 30-40 seconds to get to your shopping site. This
was tested on 7/8/2001 at 5:57 HST (Hawaii Standard Time). Our site takes
about 2-3 seconds. I had a similar "problem" about a "year" ago. I am in
Hawaii, and our Hosting service was on the West Coast. it was taking about
30-40 seconds just like your situation. I was told I had a slow connection
so it was my ISP's problem because there was no lag when they tested it.
Soooo..., I tried our shopping cart from 4 other Internet connections using
DIFFERENT ISP's and got similar slow response on the shopping cart. I
mentioned this and complained again, and again I was told it must be a
problem on my end. I know this was not correct because I went to other
shopsite sites from my ISP and got "fast" shopping cart response. i.e. went
to other shopsite sites in the US and did not have the "lag" that I had on
my shopsite web site.
However, just when I was considering moving to a different service provider,
(about 2 months later) our shopping cart magically got faster (normal) with
a response time of approx 2-3 seconds. And it has been this way ever since
then. I was told nothing was done, but I have to believe something WAS done
to fix the problem.

Thanks for all the assurance! I did finally get through to an actual human.
In the past few months, I've had 2 of my Internet Service Providers just
shutdown on me. I had this horrible feeling of deja vu all over again!

FYI: My hosting service had been taken over by another company, the staff
in the data center got pissed off and they all just walked out. My
membership credit card processing service pissed off their senior management
and they were all fired -- they took over the data center and went postal
on the equipment.

David,

Thanks for the tip. I followed your excellent instructions. I got the script
installed and running. I receive a message each time I try to send the
'testing123' message to my own email address: "Out of disk space for temp
file "

Do you have any idea what this means and how can I fix it.

Hi Gehrig,

Thanks for your response. I was also told that it must be my problem - I
was told I had too many products in my database. However, I was finally fed
up with this answer and have switched to Lexiconn. We have not gone live
yet, but the fully functioning site on the Lexiconn server takes less than a
second to go to the cart. And the regular pages are lightening quick. We
have already put in the request to change over. Just about time - we were
losing business by the second.

Plus, Lexiconn offers all sorts of great add on features included with the
Advanced Hosting Package, such as bulletin boards, chat rooms, etc. So glad
we found them...

Check our site in a few days - I guarantee there will be a difference. Just
goes to show you - you don't have to sit and listen to your host telling you
it's your problem, when you know full well it's not.

Does anybody know if associate cookies will be configurable in this version
so if a refer send a person to our site and does not purchase but calls back
another day it will still associate the order to the original refer.

I know. Yes. It will not be just Associate cookies though, you will be
able to set the length of time the shopping cart cookie (which was
previously session-based) will last. And since the Associate info is
stored in the shopping cart file that is referenced by this cookie, it
will have the effect you are looking for.

Shopsite installmgr problems

Postby Vantel Web Services » Wed Dec 19, 2001 6:08 pm

Dear Group,

Listed below are the files installed in a url change of shopsite manager.
It still is not working and I am at a loss of what to do. Any help
appreciated. Thanks.

Incidentally, attached is the list of all the files installed by ShopSite
and their permissions. They can look at it and figure out what is going. At
this point, I am stumped.

RE: CGI

Postby PCLearningMall.com » Thu Feb 21, 2002 5:41 pm

You're on the right track. Specifically, I'm selling UserID's and Passwords
to my on-line training university. Typically, one person will order a 1,3,6
or 12 month subscription. There are approx 30 product (times) 1,3,6 or 12
months. The number of groups could become unmanageable. I could set it up
that if you signed up I would give a temporary account with access to all
training topics. This might present an upsell opportunity. Then, I could go
into the web utility and restrict the order to the specific product(s)
purchased.

Is there a way to like this to a database? Because if the number of orders
is high and I'm sending out the same temporary logon then I could be
creating a traffic/logon congestion.

What other info do you need? If you want to contact me directly, feel free
to call me at 888-290-2742.

Thanks,

Paul Janke

P.S. -- Any ideas on my other posted issue about placing a shopping cart
total program on various pages within my site?

I won't need to necessisarly complicate things with a database ... it was
just a question.

I think that if we had 5 to 10 preassigned USERID's and Passwords that would
be triggered by the sku it would work great.

This way I could manage the congestion and have time to reassign the user
with a unique userid and password. Then, we would reuse the 5 to 10
preassigned and maybe change them every so often.

What are your thoughts on doing something like that?
