Order Number Tag

Postby Rick » Tue Mar 29, 2005 5:45 pm

Is there any tag that I can put on a static html page that will show the
customer what their order number will be, before they check out?

No, there is no such ShopSite tag.

You can determine what the next order number will be by looking a the
'ordernum' file in the ShopSite Data Directory, which contains the last
order number used, however I would recommend against even trying to come
up with your own method to show a shopper the order number you think
they will get, because they may not be the one to get it if someone else
completes an order before they do.

Thanks Loren, I gather that the order number is generated at the time the
order is completed and not when they are assigned a cart.

Yes, or else you would have gaps in your order numbers that represent
casual shoppers that place something in their cart but never complete an
order.
