Duplicate Orders

Postby gallery » Thu Feb 10, 2005 6:13 pm

We seem to be getting more and more duplicate orders - especially in the
past 50 orders.

Is this easy to do when ordering - or could it be a bug in the system?

We're using ShopSite SC Pro 6.1.1

ShopSite 6.3 added javascript to help prevent duplicate orders. Upgrade if
you can, that should help with this problem.

What does the Javascript do? How does it prevent duplicate orders? Alert the
customer? Produce a message? ....?

A flag is set the first time the "Submit this order" button is pressed.
If it is pressed again the code checks the flag and if it is set it
doesn't process the submit.

Does the flag have a time limit?

No, once it is set it is set. If you are familiar with javascript have
a look at the javascript code in the page source of the checkout screen
and you can follow the logic.

It doesn't need a time limit, it is only valid for that instance of the
checkout screen. Once you go to the next screen (i.e. you get a credit
card processing error or something) and go back, you can click the
submit button again. It is just to prevent someone from doubleclicking
on the submit button or getting impatient waiting for the credit card
gateway to process their card and clicking the button again. This
enhancement/feature has been around for a while (since v6.3, as Rob
mentioned).

Duplicate order with different order numbers.

Postby BigBooksandGifts.com » Sat Sep 23, 2006 10:28 pm

We got 3 identical orders (with different order numbers) the other day. We had to carefully print out these orders and compare the CC info and transaction ids.... all were exactly the same. The all came in within a second of each other. Is this a bug or was it the way the customer was holding her head when the sun passed behind the moon ? Just kidding about all that stuff. Anyway this is a serious issue as the holidays are fast approaching.

Thanks,

Steve
