Blank or Zero Quantities

Postby Scott » Wed Nov 10, 2004 4:31 pm

Hi All,
I'm having a couple of problems with product quantities. First if a product
has a zero quanity and is added to the cart I would think the order.cgi
would recognize that 0 isn't valid and therefore not send it to the shopping
cart. But it does and you have to hit recalculate to get rid of it. This
is a pain but workable.

My other problem is more serious in that if the quantity is empty and is
added to the cart it shows with a quantity of 1. My hosting provider tells
me it's a bug with the software and that I should upgrade from 6.1 to 6.3 to
see if that helps. Typical customer service answer. Has anyone ran ito
this and if so is there a workaround?

Thanks
Scott

Scott,
More info would be helpful. How are you getting a quantity of 0 for a
product on your store page? Are you using a custom product template or
a built in ShopSite template? What is the url to your store where the
issue can be seen.

Normally people would not enter a quantity of 0 and then add a product
to their cart so why is this a big issue?

I don't know if upgrading from 6.1 to 6.3 would fix this issue but the
upgrade should be free and you would get additional features so have
them upgrade your store. You can see the features in the various 6.x
versions at http://www.shopsite.com/help/6.3/en-US/ ... tures.html.

This is actually an issue you can see on the shopsite demo store as well.

http://eval.shopsite.com/shopper/als/index.html

Just delete out the quantity of a product and select order and it will take
you to the shopping cart with a quantity of 1.

So some quick background of what I'm trying to do. We sell candles. So we
have three sizes and 30 different scents. So I have set the scents up as
products and created 3 other products for large, medium and small. I've
then added these as subproducts to all the scents. In a custom template
I've then created a form that includes all three subproducts and a single
add to cart button. I've also set the initial value of the quantity to
"blank" for all three subproducts. It works slick. A customer can come in
and input 5 large, 3 medium and 2 smalls, select add to cart and it shows up
in the cart exactly correct. The problem is that customers are more than
likely not going to select a quantity for all three sizes. They might
select 5 large and 2 smalls but no mediums. When they select add to cart
the shopping cart shows the correct quantities for large and small but the
medium candle that had no quantity has a quantity of 1.

I can get around this by defaulting the quantities to zero but the user has
to hit recalc to get rid of the zero values.

Thanks for the help.

How about using a check box with the products to indicate which they
want to buy. See an example at
