Address Verification For Shipping Address?

Postby Andy » Mon Apr 26, 2004 9:52 pm

Hi, all,

does anyone know of a way, or an add-in, that can be used to verify an
address BEFORE advancing to the order verification screen? I have to use
base plus shipping.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

UPS and Credit card companies have a form of address verification. They
normally don't verify the entire address, usually only the city and zip
code are all that is done. I am not aware of any stand-alone way of
doing this. It would be exteemly complicated to get the data in the
first place and to constantly maintain it.

How about not verifying the entire address, just City and Zip?

I know there are zip code databases available.

Thanks, Jim.

I don't know where you could get such a database but perhaps the
PostOffice would have something like that. There is also no API
available on the billing or confirmation screen that would allow you to
access the database even if you could find one.

If you use the Stone Edge Order Manager (www.StoneEdge.com/OrderManager.htm)
you can have the Order Manager do a full USPS address validation and
correction as your orders are imported from ShopSite. You can also validate
orders entered manually into the Order Manager. That may not be quite as
useful as having the validation done in ShopSite, but it is available now.

If you don't have too many addresses, you can go to the US post office site
(usps.com) and use the zip code lookup. Just type in the address and leave
the zip code blank. The form will put up the address correctly formated
with the nine digit zip code and can add such as street, avenue, etc. that
customer has left out. The post office does not have an explanation but
some legitimate addresses don't come up. However, this works most of the
time.
