Customizating Customer Names

It appears that the Customer Name and the Ship To Name in shopsite are
simple text strings that allow the customer to enter there name in any
format they desire. It would be helpful if it were possible to so constrain
the customer's entry into Title, First Name, Last Name, and M.I. fields.

Anyone done this and if so how.

What version of ShopSite are you using? In ShopSite v7, the Name field
for the shipping and billing address has been spilt into First, Middle,
and Last, and there are also additonal fields, Title and Suffix. By
default in v7 all of these fields appear and First and Last are
required, although you can customize which ones appear and which are
required in Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Shipping.
