Dealer Qty Pricing

I'm setting up a ShopSite 7 Pro store and need to handle this situation:
dealers get special pricing on items when they order 6 or more of the same
item.
I can set up SKUs using multi-product discounts or using a single sku with
"Qty 6" in description text, but they need to be hidden from the typical
consumer (searches, etc).
Also, I can put pages into a seperate directory if need be.

I need help with logistics on making this work. I need to be able to train
another end user, so the process can't be extremely difficult or cumbersome.
One other note: the product selection will change often enough where I can't
just "set it and forget it".

I remember seeing another post a few months back about this, but I need more
detail.

Hello Mark,

Unfortunately, your options are very limited here. In my extensive
concersation with them on this subject, Shopsite has no plans to implement a
dealer pricing functionality, which is somewhat shocking given their price
point :( Anyway, here are a couple possibilities, neither of which are very
smooth:

1) Enable variable pricing for all items, and place the dealer 6+ price in
one of the extra fields, and then make a custom template which pulls this
value and places it into the price.

2) Make a new directory and password protect it, and then make "dealer"
pages in this directory, and create "dealer" versions of products, and
assign them to these pages.

ShopSite, the lack of this feature is a CRITICAL shortcoming in your current
offering! PLEASE consider implementing a dealer-pricing feature tied to the
customer registration in a future release.

How many different ways are there that merchants would want to implement
a "Dealer" pricing scheme? My guess is that there would be as many
ways as there are merchants. ;-) What are ways that you would want
such a feature implemented?

I would be content with just the SIMPLEST pricing scheme available:

1 price (retail) shown in the store, and
1 price (wholesale or "dealer") available to certain registered customers.
It wouln't even need to be shown in the store (although that would be nice).

The "dealer" price could be stored in a field for each product. Registered
customers who are assigned to receive "dealer" pricing could have the
correct prices calculated as they added items to the cart via order.cgi

As you mentioned, the ways in which this functionality could be extended are
practically limitless... and the demands could be as varied as you can
imagine. Still, that is no reason not to implement a basic form of this
service which may meet the needs of "middle of the road" retailers. The
majority of shopping cart software available today, even down to those whose
price point is less than 25% of Shopsites, offer this functionality in some
way or another.

This method wouldn't help Mark who said that they only get the discount
if they purchase 6 of an item. That type strategy throws another level
of complexity into the whole process.

Your suggestion could be implemented now (Version 7) by simply creating
a coupon that gives a % off to registered user who are assigned to a
specific group. When the dealer logs in that coupon would automatically
be added to their cart and the % off would be applied to their cart.
This could be extended to allow different discounts for groups of
products by creating coupons for the various product group / percentage
off and assigning them to the wholesale customer group. Again when the
wholesale customer signs in the various coupons will be added to their
cart and automatically applied whenever they put the associated items
into their cart.

Actually Jim,

I am aware of the functionality that exists in coupons and groups, and have
thoroughly evaluated it. I currently have more than 1100 items, sourced from
more than 50 vendors, and many sourced from multiple vendors. The wholesale
prices for the items I sell vary widely compared to retail - I dont want to
create 1100 coupons. I want to fix an absolute price that the wholesale
vendor would receive.

Your wholesale prices have a different percentage off for every single
item you sell? You don't have some where the wholesale price is a 5%
discount vs others with a 7% discount, etc?

I am sure there are a few items where the wholesale price is a matching
percentage off retail, but not many. I know I would need to create well in
excess of 500 coupons to get the pricing I need.
