Taxjar and Tax Exempt

Post by MgmtSpec »

Can anyone confirm if Taxjar now properly handles tax-exempt sales in Shopsite?

It depends on what you mean by "properly handles tax-exempt".

In ShopSite there is an option to mark a particular product as non-taxable. Tax will not be charged for these items.

In the Pro version, there is also an option for a registered customer to be listed as tax-exempt by the merchant. If listed as tax-exempt, taxes are not calculated in ShopSite. Currently, when this happens, no order data is passed to Taxjar.
Perhaps you are asking if ShopSite passes the info to Taxjar even when tax is exempt so that you can get reports from Taxjar. If this is the question then the answer is no.

Note: TaxJar was acquired by Stripe and it is unclear if the service will remain independent.

I was referring to registered customer tax-exempt purchases. I think I understand the flow now and you answered what I needed to know, Thanks!
