search by item number

Hi- we are using shopsite sp2 r4 familiar theme.
if people know the item number they want how can they search &/or quickly re-order using the number?

Have you entered the 'item number' as the SKU of the products? If so, then it should be indexed for the product search feature.

Note that if the item number/SKU is just a number, no letters, you should also go to Preferences -> Search Settings -> Search Indexing and check the 'Index numbers' checkbox, Save Changes, and Publish.
