Calculating Shipping Costs

I am making an online store through my local ISP as was wondering if
there is any way to tell Shopsite not to figure certain items into the
total shipping cost at the shopping cart screen. I am attempting to set
it up so that people can give a donation along with their order. I have
certain preset donation amounts set up as separate products within the
store. I want the shopping cart to figure all items that are in it into
the shipping cost except for donations. The technical support at my ISP
says there is no way to do this with the version of Shopsite they are
running. It looks like they are running version 6.3.0.
Also, if possible I would like to give people the option of being able
to add the donation to their order within the shopping cart page,
positioned below the items in the shopping cart and above the total.
Any with this help is much appreciated.

In ShopSite Pro, Products -> Edit Product Info (Advanced Editing mode)
there is a checkbox in the Shipping Information section called 'No
Shipping Charges' which you can check to exclude the product from any
shipping calculations. If you are using ShopSite Manager or Starter, it
may depend on what shipping method you are using. For example, if you
are shipping by weight, then you can simply set the weight of the item
to 0, and it will not add to the total weight and not affect the final
shipping price.

You can put OrderAnywhere buttons into the Commerce Setup -> Order
System field for 'Text at the top of the Shopping Cart screen', this
will show up above the list of products in the cart.

Loren,
I believe the version that is being used is ShopSite Manager. Under Edit
Product Info, in the Shipping Information section, there is an option
for setting the Weight, Shipping Box Dimensions, and Extra Handling
Charge, but no check box for disabling shipping charges. Our client
wants to use the Shipping By Currency method for calculating shipping
charges, and I don't think they would be willing to switch to another
method. They like to calculate the shipping cost based on the total
amount spent, and also based on whether the person ordering lives in the
U.S., Canada, or in another country. Is there any way to do this other
than using the Shipping by Currency method? Or is there some other way
to make the shopping cart not include the donation amounts in the
shipping charge?

Try using Shipping by Weight, and set the weight of the products to the
same as the price, except for the donation items which you would give a
weight of 0 so that they would not be included in the calculations.

I switched values over from Shipping by Currency to Shipping by Weight
and got everything to work correctly. Thanks for your help. I have one
more question about the placement of the button for adding donations
within the shopping cart . I am able to place this at either the very
top or the very bottom of the shopping cart page. I do this by going to
Commerce Setup -> Order System -> and pasting OrderAnywhere html into
either the 'Text at Top of Shopping Cart Screen' field or the 'Text at
the Bottom of Shopping Cart Screen' field. Is there any way to place
this donation button in between the Subtotal and the Tax, or within the
list of the ordered items? Our client would rather have it positioned
there than at the very top or bottom of the shopping cart page. I assume
that this type of customization is not possible because the shopping
cart is automatically generated.

The only way to get anywhere between these two areas is to put your HTML
for the donation order buttons in along with one of the text labels that
shows up in between. The text labels for the various fields in the
shopping cart screen are configured in Preferences -> Store Text ->
Shoppping Cart.
