Shipping address during checkout "Country" max length?

I have specified in ShopSite > Commerce Setup > Order System > Shipping/Billing that size and max length for Country are to be 2 digits in both billing address and shipping address. I also have the country default to US. But the customer is still able to type in "United States" which throws my shipping software into a spin. Am I missing something? Is there something else I need to do? I am using shopsite 12 pro. Website is www.livekoiforsale.com. Thanks!

Looks like that limit is being ignored. A bug has been logged and we'll get that fixed in a future release. For now a workaround is to go to Commerce Setup > States and Countries and configure the countries to be selected from a pull-down. On the same config page you can give the country a two-letter name.
