available APIs

Postby Andrew G » Wed May 28, 2003 5:02 pm

What API's, if any, are available for customizing certain cgi generated
product items.

I would like to write a script that assigns the file name for a product
based on the actual product name, instead of being manually entered in the
product page.

Is there an API for this?

Thanks

There is nothing in ShopSite itself that would facilitate this.
However, if you use a spreadsheet or database program like Excel or
Access to create your products off line and then upload them through the
ShopSite upload feature this would be very easy to do.

hmmmmm i thought about that, does that require a complete reload of all
products with each change? or would it accept just new items, or just
changes.

It's ok i'll check out the documentation, thanks!

You can upload just the products that are new or changed. You also don't need
to specify every possible field for a product, just a field to match on (name
or sku) and what ever fields are important for your particular use.

We use MS Access to maintain our 7500+ list of products and FTP upload
changes daily. In our Access db we have a Field named "Status" in which we
fill in the date (yyyymmdd) for each product being added or changed. In the
Access Queries-->Design view we tell the query (under the Status field):
Between "20030529" And "20030530" --which results in the query selecting
only records between those dates. The selected records are then uploaded by
FTP. Works great!
