Quickbooks import problem

Postby JSutton » Mon May 19, 2003 11:15 am

Loren,

I am hoping that you have a suggestion or two for us. We have been using the
Quickbooks download feature since it came out. Every thing had been working
smoothly until we upgraded to 6.2. Every time we try to import the
Quickbooks download file, Quickbooks performs an illegal function and shuts
down. I read in the knowledge-base about a similar problem when 6.0 first
came out. I think it had something to do with the length of characters in
the product names or something like that.

We just upgraded to 6.3 and we are still having the same problem. As far as
I know, our provider has all available patches installed. We use Quickbooks
2003, Win XP, and IE even though I tried it with a few other combinations
just out of curiosity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

Sometimes the problem is cause by a field having more characters that
Quickbooks can handle. You could place some test orders and if those
download ok compare against those that do not. Or if you have copies of the
previous downloads that worked see if they do or do not work in 6.3.

Thanks David,
We tried importing older quickbooks downloads from 6.1 into quickbooks and
they worked just fine. When our store was upgraded to 6.2 the downloads
(.iif) generated from 6.2 and now 6.3 cause the problem. We had not changed
any product information since before the upgrade.

We also tried using the QB export feature in order manager just to see what
would happen. This I found very interesting. A fresh order text file
download from this morning (6.3) could be imported into OM and then exported
to quickbooks in the iif format and we didn't have any problems. The only
thing I can think of is that perhaps there is something OM does to limit the
field sizes while generating the export if the field length is really the
problem. I would just use this as a temporary fix but since it is still
experimental, I don't want to count on it to keep our books straight.

Is there any way that it could be a file that didn't install properly from
the 6.2 or 6.3 install? Could there have been a parameter change by shopsite
between the way 6.1 and 6.2 generate the download? Our problems began after
the upgrade. I am curious if anyone else has had any problems with 6.3 and
quickbooks not working. I would be willing to bet that there hasn't been. It
leads me to believe that the problem could be on our end. I would
appreciate any thoughts you or anyone else has about this.

Thanks again for your help,
Justin

Justin,

We are having the same issues with the illegal file operation message. We
had no problem before the upgrade.
