Shopsite Store learning

Postby Peter Gregg » Mon Dec 01, 2014 12:41 am

The Shopsite Store has always been a mystery to me. Sorry for such a low level question, but where can I read more about it?

Where would the store be, in terms of the url?

I have been using "orderanywhere" all over my current website for the past 5 years. How do I make sure a shopsite store does not clobber my current website?

Thanks,
Peter

You can see the location of various files for your store by going to Preferences > Hosting services in the merchant interface for your store. (NOTE: a few hosts block access to this cgi so if you can't get to that screen you will need to contact them for the information.)

The store is based on the authorized url for your store which is contained in the store.auth file that was used when your store was installed. That url can be seen in the Store Settings section in the Store URL field. The ShopSite Images URL is based off of your store url and that location contains images supplied by ShopSite and used in the merchant interface as well as the templates provided by ShopSite.
The location of the actual cgis that run your store are found in the Merchant CGIs URL field (all merchant cgis used in managing the store) and Shopping Cart CGIs URL field (all cgis used when an order is being placed by a shopper)
All images that you upload (and sample images ShopSite provides) will be in a "media" directory at the root of your domain so if the authorized url for your store is http://my.domain.com then the media directory is at http://my.domain.com/media .
All html pages generated by ShopSite will be placed in the root of the authorized url. So if you create a page with the filename index.html with the above authorized url the index.html page will load from http://my.domain.com/index.html.
If you have store pages created outside of ShopSite, such as pages with order anywhere links for products, it is typical to have those pages at the root of the domain and have the ShopSite generated pages placed in a /store or /shop etc directory so there won't be a chance of ShopSite generated pages overwriting other store pages.

The online help for ShopSite can be found at http://www.shopsite.com/help/12.0/en-US/sc/pro/index.htm . From that page there are links to information about getting started with ShopSite, Back Office screen Reference, Tutorials, Technical info. You might take a few minutes and browse some of the information to see if it answers any of your other questions.
