Changing the product ID

Postby xylemdesign » Wed Nov 12, 2014 12:53 pm

Hello,

I'm looking to rearrange the product id's for my products but I can't seem to figure out how to change that field. I'm using the database download, making my changes, then uploading them back up. I have tried using the SKU and GUID as the unique identifier but it doesn't seem to work. Is it even possible to do? or are the product id's immutable? Any thoughts?

Cheers

The product ID is the internal database record number. It is not possible to change it directly.

Is there some specific reason you need to change it?

That was what I was thinking. Unfortunately the way our site is setup we are using the product id as a way of presenting our product information and its also tied in with our ordering buttons.

Is there a limit to the amount of SKU's we can have?

SKUs are limited to one per product. There is not ShopSite limit to the number of products in a Pro or Manager level store. However, there will probably be a practical limit depending on server disk space and processor speed. I have seen store with more than 30,000 products and have heard of some that have more than 100,000.
