Problem Setting Up Menu and Links for Mobile

Hello,

I want to set up mobile pages for our shopsite pro store. When setting up mobile I want to be able to set up the secondary navigation using "left links options." The problem I am having is that for the PC store I use a custom template and do not use the Shopsite > Preferences > Navigation Menu or page links. So from within Navigation > Menu I am trying to set up page links, but shopsite wants me to have a menu set up. When I ADD a menu and click save nothing happens, the page just hangs. The only way to get the page to load again is to manually go to the server data directory and manually delete the file menu.dat.

My question is why is the menu set up failing. Is it because I have a custom product page template? I really don't need the shopsite menu but to use the navigation page links on my mobile set up, shopsite is forcing me to have a menu as well.

Any help solving this problem would be appreciated.

The Navigation menus can be configured without them knowing what page template is going to be used. So there should be no problem setting navigation menus/links in general. You can also enable any of the links (Left,Right, Bottom) separately from the Top Navigation menu.

So if you are having problems configuring the links/menu there is probably a problem with your ShopSite install. What version of ShopSite are you using (Press on the ShopSite logo at the top left of any backoffice screen and look at the footer. it should be something like ShopSite® Pro 12 r2.3)?

I am using ShopSite® Pro 11 sp2 r3

There was an error message when I tried to ADD/Save Leftpagelinks links telling me that a menu had to be set up first.

On the Preferences > Navigation screen click the Configure button and make sure you have just the Left links option checked.

Per your direction, I went to Navigation > Configure > and unchecked Menu enable. Then I went to the Navigation > LeftPage Links > ADD Link > Add Shopsite Page > Save and then get the following error:

It sounds like there may be a blank space in the Menu box. See if you accidentally added just a space or return to the box. If not just put something in it and leave the option to use the Menu unchecked.

Hello Jim,

Tried your suggestion of putting something in the menu box and leaving it unchecked. But the page still just hangs and goes blank when I try to add a product to the page. I can't get the setup/edit page to load again unless I delete the menu file in the directory.

Where is your store hosted? If they are a ShopSite partner that provides support have you asked them for assistance?
It sounds like something must be messed up, out of disk space or something like that.
If your hosting company doesn't provide support you might want to purchase a single incident support at http://www.shopsite.com/support_pricing.html . Without accessing your store backoffice and possibly the server it may be hard to determine what is going on.

Hi Jim,

The store is hosted in our Windows Server. We have been hosting shopsite stores since Shopsite 4. However, we have not used this menu feature in sometime as we have now have custom templates. When I run diagnose.cgi the page_menu.cgi shows up as having been created in 2011 and modified in 2012. And that it is both readable and writeable.

I am wondering if an upgrade to SS 12 would fix it. Have the related CGI files been updated in SS 12?

I checked with our Windows developer and he said the issue with setting up menus and links was fixed in ShopSite 11sp2 r5. Your store is running ShopSite 11sp2 r3. So upgrading to either 11sp2 r5 or the latest version ShopSite 12 r2 should fix the issue.
