How do I set up drop ship for a product?

Postby hiamps » Tue Aug 12, 2014 10:29 am

A supplier I use offers easels that I can put on my website but would not stock instead the supplier would drop ship for me. Our entire shopsite goes by weight shipping and the easel weighs 140 lbs so when someone tries to order it we get a merchant alert...

Error details:
Warning - The package weight cannot exceed 70 pounds.
We miss the order and this has happened many times. How do I set it up correctly?

If you only offer USPS shipping, and USPS has a 70 lb limit, then yes, the customer would not be able to checkout. I would suggest one of two options, whichever is better for your store.

1. remove the weight you have specified for that product, and instead estimate the shipping cost for that product and add that cost into the "Extra Handling Charge" field for the product (Products > Edit Product Info). The Extra Handling Charge is added to the shipping total.

2. Setup one of the ShopSite shipping rates in addition to your USPS real-time shipping rate that is specific to specialty products. For example, you could setup the Shipping by Weight table and have orders 70 lbs or less be a higher shipping rate than the real-time rates, so that customers select the real-time USPS rates instead, and orders over 70 lbs have a rate that you have estimated.
