International Shipping Error - stareted Late January

Postby circlekstrings » Tue Feb 04, 2014 12:38 pm

Hello all -
I have read a few posts on here about some problems recently with USPS, but nothing directly related to what we started seeing late January (about the 26th/27th)

we now get the following error when international customers try and check out:

Shipping costs cannot be computed for some items in your cart. Please contact the merchant.

the only shipping we allow is flat rate and flat rate international - so parcel post is not anywhere in our system.

Thoughts on why this would be affecting only international customers? and only intermittently?

ShopSite® Pro 11 sp2 r4,

thanks

Is anyone else experiencing issues with international shipping "all of a sudden" as of late Jan?

USPS had rate changes in late January. It is also possible that they renamed some shipping options or changed something else that could have caused a problem.

What version of ShopSite are you running?

Are there specific steps you can give us to duplicate the problem? For example what shipping options do you have configured on the USPS config screen? What package type and weight do you have configured for the product? What country are you shipping to? Anything else that you might think would be relevant?

I called USPS and the only requirement change they said was made was a "value" field - so i updated our shipping to include a declared value of $10 and its still not working
commerce-->shipping-->usps
Include a declared value in rate requests
Maximum amount (USD)

so still wondering what is missing, and why we cant ship outside of USA - USPS supprt was pretty useless "your account is active" is about he most valuable piece of info i got out of them

I set up a ShopSite 11sp2r5 store ( yours is 11sp2r4 so not much different) and a ShopSite 12r1 store to see what differences I got when trying to place an order.
As you mentioned the 11sp2 store doesn't return International rates. The version 12 store returns two rates.
Code: Select all
Priority Mail International®
Priority Mail Express International®

I noticed on the configuration screen that in 11sp2 those 2 methods are listed as
Code: Select all
Express Mail® International
Priority Mail® International
and in 12 they are listed as
Code: Select all
Priority Mail Express International®
 Priority Mail International®

Note the difference in the placement of the Registered symbol.

That is likely a change that they made which is probably causing this issue. It is highly unlikely that we could get USPS to change this back so you could get your international rates again.

Since the version 12 store does get the international rate I suggest that you have your store upgraded to ShopSite Version 12r1. You should contact your host about getting the upgrade.

Another thing that you might consider while you are waiting for Verio is to enable one of the ShopSite shipping options such as Shipping by Weight or Shipping by Currency. You could change the name for the shipping options from the default Ground or 2nd Day Air to Priority Mail International or Priority Mail Express International. Then put rates that would be most commonly associated with your packages when shipped by USPS. My 12 store had
[code]Priority Mail International® : $24.75
Priority Mail Express International® : $46.50[code]
Both he US postal rates and the ShopSite shipping rates would show up for US order but the international orders would just see the ShopSite rates since no USPS rates are being returned for the international locations.

This may not be the best resolution but at least you could continue to get international orders since the shopper would be able to at least place an order.

Jim you were spot on as usual, Verio was very quick to get us on 12.0.1 and international shipping started working again.

Thanks again! You Rock!
