USPS ERROR

Post by MikeyBlakey »

Hey Guys,

I am to the point in my store where I am setting up the tax and shipping. However my issue is come time to checkout we receive an error
which states USPS Shipping: (USPS) Authorization Failure. You are not connected to this server. Do I need to contact USPS?

Also, is there a way within USPS shipping to assign a flat rate to say if the buyer is purchasing 1 items ($3 shipping), 2 items ($5 Shipping)..etc

The reason is, my products are prints that can be put on Shirts, crew necks, and hoodies. Obviously a Hoodie is going to be heavier than a shirt. Unless there is a way to assign a weight to the hoody, shirt, or crew neck, which are all options in pull down menus; I'm at a loss.

Thanks,

Mike

For USPS shipping, you would need to first have a USPS account. You can setup most of the shipping information when you go through the setup wizard within ShopSite. However, it often takes 2 - 3 days for your USPS shipping account to be a live account. It will give an error if it is not live. You may be able to contact USPS to see if you can speed the process up, or to see if there is anything that you need to do to make your account live.

Second, for shipping, either option you mentioned below can be setup within ShopSite. If you want to setup flat rate shipping, you could go to Commerce Setup > Shipping > select Flat Base Each Shipping > Configure. For Flat Base Each, you can set a base flat rate price, then have X amount added for each additional item.

For real-time shipping rates you would enter each product's weight by going to Products > Edit Product Info. The shipping weights will then be sent to USPS (or whatever real-time shipping integration you are using), for the real-time rates to be calculated.

I have already setup my USPS account, so I will wait a couple days and see what happens.

Also, I couldn't just change the weight of the product because my products are the "designs" that go onto my garments.

I just realized I can change the weight of these using advanced options by adjusting the weight modifier.

Is there a way to power edit this option?

You can poweredit the ordering options (I think the text to select is Option Menu Text or something like that). If you are doing global poweredit, the options must be the EXACT same, including any images, pricing, or alternate SKUs (if you are using those fields).

Awesome, yea the only thing I would be editing is the weights of the different options which will all be the same.

When I change the "weight Modifier" Column to a certain value will if effect my shipping price if I'm using weight based shipping with USPS?

I ask this because I just setup everything with USPS and I had to enter in a weight for all of my products which are just the "Designs" for T-Shirts. I just want to be sure that USPS will get this info and then my shipping charges will adjust with the change when I adjust the Weight modifier column

Thanks for the help Lauren

Yes, if you have weights in the Advanced Ordering option fields, those weights will be included in the order when the order information is passed to USPS for calculation.

Note, the weight modifier field is similar to the price modifier field, in that, if you have a regular product weight, as well as advanced ordering option weight modifier, the two are added together. For example, if you have a product weight of 0.2 lbs, and you want to charge more for a sweatshirt, you can 0.2 in the weight modifier sweatshirt field and the sweatshirt will be calculated as 0.2 + 0.2 = 0.4 lb.
