Search - Feature Request

I've been thinking about the search feature in ShopSite for some time,
and it just plain stinks for all practical purposes. I have been trying
to devise a way to make it more useful but anything I can think of would
require way too much work.

Are there any plans by ShopSite to upgrade the search feature any time
soon? I would love a search that worked on More Info pages and linked to
them instead of 4 or 5 different category pages. And displaying a
thumbnail of the product would be awesome...

Of course, the best thing would be if we could somehow create a template
ourselves for what fields we want to display in the search results.

Anyway, just a suggestion...

I am sure that search features will continue to be added, but in
ShopSite Pro v6x you can already select the More Info Page as the search
destination for the products rather than the regular Store pages.

Note that in v6, there were quite a few improvements to the search
feature, including accepting boolean search values, and optional
wildcard stemming.

The simple search (without the aforementioned features) was also made
available to Manager stores in v6.

Preferences>Search Options. Where would I find it?

Search Destination is a per-product setting, go to Products, select a product,
Edit Product Info, and find the Search Destination setting. The options are:
Store (the default, and how it has always worked previously), MoreInfo, Made,
None, or you can provide a specific URL. if you need more description of what
these particular options mean, click the help button or go to:

I've never tried this before, but you could try some JavaScript in the product
description that will only display the thumbnail image if on a certain page, in this
case the productsearch.cgi page. You would have to configure the search feature to
1) not strip HTML from the product description, and 2) include enough characters of
the product description to allow for the javascript. Let us know if it works

I use html to display the small picture and when you do this you get a
picture in the search.
