ShopSite is a security risk?

Postby ihssaplesk » Fri Jan 17, 2014 1:12 pm

We have been using ShopSite for two years. Our ISP says that is is a security risk. Here's what one tech said in an email to us:

"I talked with several of the consultants here at (ISP's name) about your site recently and wanted to also let you know their thoughts on Shopsite as I'm sure you care about your customer's financial safety. They warned me and wanted me to let you know that Shopsite has been exploited multiple times, is not secure, and that you should likely look for a new shopping cart servicer. I know that this puts additional strain on you and your developers but the safety of your customers could be at risk using Shopsite."

I would think that any past security issues have been resolved. Can someone confirm this please?

They moved our working website to a new server, stating they were going to do away with the older servers. Our site is up, down, up down - not related to us running Shopsite by the way. The new site is running Plesk and, I believe, is the first Plesk server installed at this ISP. Is anyone running their site on a Plesk server? I get the impression they are dissing ShopSite to get rid of us. We have been with this ISP for 15 years for one account/site, and 7 years for another site.

ShopSite 11 and ShopSite 12 both past the stringent PCI certification which credit card companies require. You can see information on this at http://www.shopsite.com/pci-pa-dss.html So security of the shopper data is one of our highest priorities.

ShopSite will run on Plesk for Linux and there are quite a few sites that use that platform.

Please email or PM me the ISP name that is telling you this misinformation and I'll have the ShopSite account rep for that firm contact them to find out what issues they are having and see if we can get them straightened out.

We changed to Lexiconn a couple years ago and even though it was more than our previous host the service is way way worth it. We used to have lots of downtime and haven't had any and all the problems we create they solve within a few minutes. I highly recommend them!!!

You could even try Pair Networks. Rock-solid hosting, great support for ShopSite and I haven't had any security issues for the last four years that we've been running ShopSite there. We now run four instances of ShopSite on Ubuntu Linux.

I am using ShopSite from 2 year, but I didn't got any problem till now. But its important to make some security, and must not take any kind of risk.

I've used pair.com for a few dozen sites and over 10 years. I think it is more secure than most. The only hacks I've heard of were PW stolen do to end users not logging into SS using SSL. pair support has been top notch.
